2nd October 2024 Project Update

BEFORE:

The entrance to The Drive, The Ifold Conservation Area and Community Gardens was a little over grwon as the Biodiversity Working Group began work to remove the vegetation. Being overgrown was a necessary process towards biodiversity where the plants are allow to grwo and seed. the vegetation is then stripped away to remove organic matter and so the fertility int he soil and over time encouraging the less vigorous plants to grow such as wild flowers. A greater diversity of species of plants int he area will encourage biodiversity of insects and other animals.

DURING

The Biodiversity Working Group spent a happy morning clearing the vegetaion.

And planting bulbs.

AFTER

The vegetation was put into a bulk bag for collection and composting off site.

Beginning of Phase 2, Project update June 2024

The Community area at Ifold Bus Stop may look a little untidy but the wildlife doesn't care about that, and if you look closer you can see what has sprung up over winter and that is only the plant life. In amongst the vegetation both alive and rotting will be a plethora of insects and invertebrates which in turn will feed the small birds and mammals that have become so scarce.

Later this summer/ autumn the Parish Council Biodiversity Group will be cutting back the growth and clearing it away to encourage those plants that don't survive when the soil becomes too rich.

If you can help with this and other projects the first Biodiversity Working Group meeting will be in early September in Winterton Hall and look out for the adverts for this please come along.

End of Phase 1, project update - February 2022

Project introduction

VOLUNTEERS WANTED

The Parish Council is working with Ifold Estates Ltd to revamp The Drive, Ifold bus stop area. After all, it’s currently an unsightly derelict mess! However, with the guidance of Butterfly Conservation and support of Natural Gardens the aim is to turn it into a bio-diverse conservation heaven for our rare Wood White butterfly and other minibeasts.

How can you help with the project?

As part of this project and the Parish Council’s ongoing Safer Bus Stop initiative the current bus shelter on the site will be carefully dismantled and a new bespoke timber shelter will be built at a different location on the site. Some of the existing shelter materials will be retained to be reused. We are looking for volunteers who can help to dismantle the bus shelter, help with scrub clearance and, of course, plant up the area in the spring!

You don't need any skills/knowledge - just enthusiasm.

If you would like to get involved please contact the Parish Council Clerk.
